Research Interests
Cytokinins and their role in plant development.
I am using transgenic and mutant-isolating approaches for the elucidation of the role of cytokinins in the development of
Arabidopsis thaliana
. Transgenic Arabidopsis plants have been constructed which express the
ipt
-gene, which encodes the first step of cytokinin synthesis, after induction. Transgenic Arabidopsis plants have been constructed which constitutively express the
ipt
-gene. These plants show significant increases in biomass and strongly delayed flowering and senescence.
Several mutants have been isolated in Arabidopsis which show a significant increase in different cytokinin metabolites.
Differentiation and dedifferentiation processes in plant development.
I have isolated several mutant lines which show spontaneous formation of calli with different forms of differentiation which grow indefinitely
in vitro
. Some of these lines have significantly increased contents of cytokinins or auxins. Molecular characterization of these mutant lines is performed by Markus Frank
in our laboratory.
